Charleston, South Carolina

After graduating from the University of Florida in 1994 with a masters degree in Architectural Preservation, Julie began her career with the Historic District Commission on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.  She moved to Charleston in 1998 and founded American Vernacular two years later.

She continues her passion of preserving structures in the historic districts of Charleston, Sullivan’s Island, and Mount Pleasant.  She has received multiple Carolopolis awards from the Preservation Society of Charleston for her work.  In addition to preservation, she focuses on integrating traditional elements and forms into new custom designs from Awendaw to Kiawah!
